Edgar Evans who accompanied Scott on his ill-fated expedition to the South Pole was born in Rhossili and a plaque in his memory can be found in the 12th century Norman church.

Dylan Thomas writer and poet loved the area around Mewslade bay (5 minutes drive from us) and camped at “Buttons Farm” on many occasions.

The Gower coast has been a graveyard to shipping and many have foundered on the reefs and rocky headlands. The wreck of the Helvetia, which ran aground in the terrible storm in november 1887, can be clearly seen in the Rhossili bay.

Less than a mile from the site is the Paviland Bone cave where the “Red Lady of Paviland” was discovered. This discovery was later proved to be the skeleton of a stone age man. Modern dating methods suggest it may be around 29, 000 years old.
